Singer 750 / Necchi BU

That is not true for all 1970s Singers. No matter, they announce their model, not their age. I'll take one of the last all mechanical machines from Kilbowie /Clydebank from that era. There were some Singer Fashionmates, made in Italy, that had no plastic gears, the 237, I think, that are among the good ones. But,by reports, not all 237s were built with the same gears.

Exactly... if you want to buy a "pig in a poke" pick a Singer from the 70's. To be fair... they have improved of late but IMO the Singers of that era are a disaster.

The Necchi is a terrific machine. I don't use mine a lot but it always works for me.

I bought my wife a top of the line singer around 1970, and it was a disaster, so much slop in the gears that it could not maintain tension, constant snafu's. After three "factory" re-do's, and being replaced once with a totally new machine, she went Pfaff and has never looked back.

Woot! Here she is. The 1949 (I think,) Necchi BU that Mom got when she first got married.

I just got home with it and I'm excited. Can't call up many of my buddies and say that so here it is for your pleasure!

Needs a little cleaning but it's all there and then some. Serviced just before it was put away and it works great.

This is going to be fun... And interesting! There will be a learning curve here...

Many bits and pieces. Hem roller feet, binder foot, ruffler foot no less... and other parts I don't even recognize.

Need ruffles on your hammock trim? No worries!

Pic of the cabinet tomorrow. It's not nearly as nice as the one pictured before, but functional.

What a beauty! You are going to love that machine!
On the Singer though... I would go ahead and get it as well. Put it somewhere that is easily accessible. Every now and then when you get frustrated with the Necchi pull out the Singer and sew a little.
In the long run this will save you hours of frustration and bundles of money; the Singer will let you know right quick how good you really have it with the Necchi!
It is a shame about Singers (and others) there for a few decades.

I didn't get the Singer because my sister occasionally uses it and my mom has a custom cabinet for it. And I still have the electronic Brother that I can use if I need something else.

Looking forward to using this baby.
