I am new (again) to the site, but definitely not new to hangin' or hiking!! As a native Appalachian from near Roan Mtn TN, I've been hiking the mountains since I could walk.
I started using hammocks during my Army career, but those old canvas jungle hammocks were just too heavy for AT hiking (or any long hikes), so after I retired from the Army and had time to hike more, I started investigating. After several tries, and lots of research, including this great site, I have been sleeping wonderfully in a Clark NX-150 for the last 4 years.
Hanging has definitely been great, esp as I aged somehow along the way!!
I use DIY straps with cinch buckles for suspension, and still tweak my overall package every trip. Someday, I will get it just the way I want it.. but then who knows!
