That link will have all the information you need to plan your trip. We went outside of permit season (meaning we didn't have to make a reservation, still had to get a permit) and that worked well for us. I spent around $500 total: ferries to/from Washington, gas from Oregon to Washington, hotel in Port Renfrew one night, permits, meals off trail, meals on trail, trail bus, etc.

I want to go again...it's amazing.

Ya people from all over the world come to do this hike. Which I think is crazy, it cost me about 500 bucks to do it and I live "here" and its not a very long hike..about 75km/46 miles. I would think people would come to hike sections of the big 3, or some other commonly known area of North America. But hey it is truly and awesome hike in its own right. I do believe Backpacker magazine rated it top 5 places to hike, and 3rd hardest hike in North America.

I met people from France, Germany, Netherlands, Korea, Australia, Britain, Russia, and from all over the U.S. and Canada, and thats just off the top of my head.

I just love the foliage there and the ancient hints of Haida.
Were you using an Osprey-sure looked like one.
The sea caves were awesome...did it make you want to paddle through one on slack tide?
I'll be honest, my knees hurt just looking at the stairs.
Did you have to have reservations for the trail? Seems like I remember you do.
At 11:14, wonderful, just wonderful pic. You have to love the PNW..just a spectacular place.
Harbor seals, bald eagles! Man you guys saw it all. Was that a humpback! Incredible. What a freeking trip. I'm so jealous!!
Truly blessed to have done this walk. Truly truly.
Thank you very much for taking along/letting us get a glimpse of this stupendous region....can you tell I revere the Haida, the Kwakiutl, the Swami-sh and to think you walked in their footsteps.
MM your enthusiasm conveys exactly what I was feeling, around very corner, every log I climbed over, ever rock I stubbled upon, every water hole I looked in, every scene I had in front and in back of me.

A: No I was not using an Osprey. I actually was trying out a REI Flash 50. First time in 7 years I did not take my ULA Circuit It worked out well, but I missed my ULA

B: The sea caves were a treat...until a group of individuals came into and sat in a circle, held hands and started "toning." I am sure that was cool for the "religious" experience, but it killed mine. I would have like to kayak the whole area and pop in and out of all the island around. We barely missed the "hole" (at 11:50 and 11:58) by a foot of the tide coming in, so we may have had to kayak that in about 30mins had we not gotten through there. The tides were at a their highest high 10 feet + and at their lowest lows during this time of year.

C: Yes you had to make reservations. The reservation for when we wanted to go opened up on Jun 1 at 12am. They allow 16 people to start on each end, each day. By 12:03am (when the internet finally "freed" up) there was only 3 slots left for the month. You can do a "walk on" but you may end up waiting 2-3 days to get on the trail.

D: Not sure what kind of whale it was..but is sure awesome, wish I could have gotten the shots that I was seeing with my eyes. They would come out of the water, and by the time you clicked and the shutter snapped it was over. So I finally put the camera down and just enjoyed nature for who she is.
I miss my 4.8Lb base weight as a ground dweller...But I sure DON'T MISS the ground.

The area of Pacific Rim Park, north of there and south of there is home to the Nuu-Chal-Nulth group of first nation bands. First contact by the spanish and american was made with this group. The Haida are up in Queen Charlottes, ( Haida Gwaii off the coast from Prince Rupert.
I can' seem to watch the video now but if a whale is breaching the water, jumping up, more than likely its a Humpback. Their a common site along the West Coast of Vancouver Is.
