Been there, done the butt-landings. That one looks a bit complicated. Maybe safer for the poles???
I remember that thread.
I think it is safer for the poles. HOI is a pretty big guy and his does fine without any signs of issues. We hiked together for about a week this spring and his chair held up well.
I agree it is complicated, especially when you first try setting it up. But the learning curve is short. Once you get it, it is fairly intuitive.
Absolutely. But you should have seen me trying to learn it via written instructions. I tried to identify the fixes to all the errors I made during the learning process.
The innovations continue! That took some thinking by HOI and as always, a great video presentation by Sgt Rock.
I made a couple of hammock chairs using SteelerNation's design and I love the idea of a chair. They weigh about the same but need two trees but no poles. This is a nice option that needs only one tree, although it looks like more work.

fantastic, love the ideas. Always looking for a way to have a chair fit into my lightweight backpacking setup.
I like the idea and it looks more comfortable than other hammock chairs that I have seen but I'm not sure if it will ever use it because of the amount of setup involved. Gwad, listen to me, im so lazy. Plus it looks like the trekking poles could shoot out from under you at any time. Other than those two concerns I think its a great idea. Good job.
