    Shenandoah National Park

    or

    George Washington National Forest

Either place is practically 100 forested, so finding places to hang is not a problem.

Here's a link to a few YouTube videos I have posted on various hikes / camping trips I have taken in both of these places.

    Good luck!

if you dont have time to head out to the mountains, there are always the state parks:

Pocahontas SP is a bit to the south of you in Chesterfield County.

Bear Creek Lake SP, Twin Lakes SP, and James River SP are all within an hour of you.

To the north, there is Lake Anna SP and further north near Quantico is Prince William Forest Park.

Also, Powhatan Wildlife Mgmt Area is a nice free place for woodsy adventures--just be sure to wear your blaze orange during hunting season.

But if you have time and are near the mountains may i strongly suggest:

    St. Mary's Wilderness
    Ramsey's Draft Wilderness
    Mt Pleasant Recreation Area
Dolly Sods Wilderness/Roaring Plains area in WV
    Laurel Fork Wilderness--amazing amazing area
the triple crown (MacAfee's Knob/Tinker Cliffs/Dragons Tooth) on the A.T.
    Mt. Rodgers Recreation Area proper
any section of the A.T. from Atkins to Daleville
also the James River Face Wilderness

Seek out and search the sites hikingupward.com and http://www.midatlantichikes.com...these were the two websites that started this whole obsession for me

First winter hang should be someplace where you can go inside if you're cold, like your back yard. Second best (and better in many respects) is going to a winter hang with others. Mt Rogers is one such. We all look out for each other.

Got a group hike and hang planned first weekend in April in JNF. Right after that I plan to do another hike-n-hang few weeks later in Shenandoah. Want to knock out 3-5 trips by end of spring, hopefully.
