    Survived my first night!

Tested my setup last night in 57 degree Indiana weather. Light rain, heavy fog and light winds. Slept like a baby from midnight till 9 am. We have a flock of chickens, and it's amazing how much louder the roosters are (at the crack of dawn) when you're sleeping outside next to them...:rolleyes. The only problem I had was my back felt a little stiff in the morning, but not too bad. I am using for the time being: GT Hammock, Suspension that came with it (carabiners and line) I have some slap straps, but am looking also at the whoopie sling idea. A home depot camo poly tarp (have an eno tarp on the way), night eyes for the guy lines with the little instant "knot" cheater things (love em), and used two pads, a thermarest and a egg carton texture blue ccf pad from wm. Kelty compressable pillow. Kept nice and warm all night. It is amazing though that any part of your body that gets off that pad, starts instantly getting chilly. I'm trying to decide whether to go with the slip on pad wing extender thing or just bite the bullet and get an uq. Anyway, thanks HF for all the information on this site that gave me the confidence to get started.

    Yay! It's fun, huh?

Yes, I switched almost immediately to an UQ. I'm sure pads work great in a DL but after wrestling with one all night in the GTUL decided to modify an extra sleeping bag. I call it the Marmod and it works great.

Welcome to you, from NE Florida!

Survived my 1st nearly a year ago...at the 2nd Annual Florida Hang. It was a balmy +21F overnight on Saturday. Word from those in the know is overnight temp at the 1st Florida Hang was +18F. Hoping for just a BIT warmer in January '13! C'mon down!

    Way to go Redpath!

I've been toasty warm down to about freezing, with some wind (blocked by the tarp) only using one or two pads underneath - along with a nice JRB TopQuilt. However; in the interest of full disclosure, my Wilderness Logic Underquilt was ordered last week

Welcome to HF. Hope to see you at a group event someday.
