Les- hike 'em all, that's a Poof thing. I never had the bug to do Smoky miles, I just tag along with her and like being out there-I think we did 130 miles this year in the Park and I've done the AT across the Smokies (with the exception of Clingmans to Newfound Gap-saving that for the end of my AT effort) so I'm maybe a bit over 200. Part of the Lakeshore is at the end of the month depending on snow, we're taking the water shuttle over to Hazel Creek and go from there.
Bill- We need cold, it's 65 again today and it just aint right-besides I like using my winter kit.
Surfer! Good to hear from you--did you ever put the little surfer on your pack or was it lost in your storm?
Acer- you belong down here and you know it! Pack up and move on down, the waters fine
BEAS- why wait for retirement. My boss has already strongly suggested I shave. I suggested we meet in HR with my attorney.
Catavarie- thanks for coming along-maybe someday for real. Durham is not that far away.
CrankyBear- thanks dude. I was wishing at one point that I'd packed shorts.
Hawk-Eye- twas rough only because we made it so. It's like sometimes we're trying to see what old bodies can do, we're finding out it's not that much HA!

Enjoyed the video! Looks like you figured another way to use the sock. The cook kit you have put together is great. Fire, charcoal grill, and alky at a great weight.

Ha! I had a laugh at that shout out. You can now add Spammie to the list; along with ftroop we'll be sporting our U of Hadron letterman jackets at the next hang.

Keep on hiking and keep the videos coming - we all enjoy them.

Evidently the Hadron has become the ticket of entry into the Savage Gulf---will make an awesome group photo to send to Stoic. I've even had a PM asking about using it this past weekend. Just know the writs cuffs are TIGHT...Poof tried wearing it with a ultralightweight Montbell down vest under and could not stand the heat.

Love that big temp gauge! Sure is a good stove/cooking set up. Well done on the new night hike record! If I was hiking with you and you told me that story about the bears, it wouldn’t have been appreciated. You would have slept well, because I would have been up all night looking out for big, scary bears. lol You’ve got some very interesting gadgets, there young man, even a mini steak grate. Thanks for the very interesting trip report, MedicineMan!

    You are most welcome Brucei!
Funny how I had to go north and west, way north and west to see bear.
GSMNP has 1 bear/sq mile but they are always the least of my fears! Sprains and falls take precedent.
New stove. Well I've always carried the MSR Titan-out of love or respect or just a thousand and a half plus miles. Once Gredemeer gave me the caldera cone specific to it, well I was enamored. Now the Dr.Zooz grill and I have all the bases covered. A 7 gram alc stove, wood or charcoal, and the simple efficiency, the pot stand, the wind block that the cone provides.
Now the Gredemeer Stove. I had to use it for a while before I could rave. Think about it, 7 grams. You would never know its there. So for the price of peanuts its in your kit. We didn't film it but an Esbit works too (and after running almost out of fuel at the BSF we both had 3 Esbit!).
If you ever come over do not fear bears in GSMNP....fear the closed trail and the warnings that clearly say dont do it.

Dug the vid Daddy O! Diggin' the chin too. Nice to have a personal groomer along with ya! 5 miles at nite is impressive to me. Loved the alky/ grill set up. Nice scenery as usual. You and Poof looked like ya had a good time despite the heatwave.

As always, enjoyed watching this latest venture.

Thanks Rich, good to hear from you. Still sad we won't see you in Ocala this year...that's always a 50/50 with me.
Already planning the next off weeks Smoky times...guaranteed no closed trails this time.

After spending a month in Thailand without tInternet I really enjoy catching up on Trip Reports like these.

It makes acclimatization a bit less harsh for me. Love that cooking setup you have there now.... stop 'Roching' us

Thanks for sharing MM! (and Poof of course!)

    Grtz Johan
