Integrated UQ on DIY winter hammock?

Hey Y'alls! As I have espoused many, many times, my google-fu is pretty poor, so please forgive me if this idea has been beaten to death previously somewhere else.

I am contemplating my next DIY project for winter camping, and my idea was to try and avoid the hassles of UQ suspension, avoiding drafts, having the UQ move as I wriggle in the hammock, and so on.

Has anyone tried sewing an UQ directly to the hammock as an 'all-in-one' solution for winter camping? If so, can someone post the thread link here?

I am thinking about directly sewing a 3/4 sized down UQ onto the bottom of a DL DIY hammock. All ideas are welcome!

It definitely has been done. Just don't have the link at hand.

If you're going for a less hassle solution you might want to consider doing a full length UQ as opposed to 3/4. Just a thought especially since this is for winter camping.

    Hmmmm, neat idea!

If you were to make it all from scratch, seems to me you'd want to make the top layer of the UQ from whatever hammock material you prefer, whip the ends, and rig it. Why not have the down right up against the ripstop? No need for the UQ's top layer, right?

BTW, great to see a fellow Geocacher! If you ever get down Danville-way, be sure to look mine up (same screen name.) I've got a few out that have become very well liked!

Yes, I was thinking the same way about it - just fashion an UQ and whip it into a hammock.

This hammock would likely see use by my coņos (my beloved brothers-in law) who are large men. Not in girth, so much as they are tall and big boned. So that's why I am leaning towards a double - for strength. Perhaps I could use 1.7 for the load-bearing top layer and something light for the bottom layer.

I haven't had any time for caching in quite a while, but I miss it. I've done some doozies, like 'Blood & Guts' and the 'Psycho Urban' series nearby. I sure do love the Danville area, beautiful country. Do you ever see Dan Tyminski? He lives down there.

I'll keep scratching my noodle. Funny, lots of folks have read the post, but only a few of us are poking at it. Thanks for your replies!

Thanks DivaB! Those links DID actually get me thinking a bit. I like the idea of channels which can be packed with [insert insulation type here] according to purpose. Very cool.
