Hammock camping in Colorado during the winter I've never had a need for winter quilts even without the hottarp. They are just too bulky for a backpack. Car camping? OK if you do a lot of that.
I've always used extra clothing like insulated over pants and heavy down coat with hood to increase my range in the hammock.

In the hottarp I've never went to sleep with the fire going.

Keep the warm quilts. The 'hot tarp' is nice for undressing and getting in the hammock, and getting back up in the morning. Let the fire burn out before you fall asleep.
Smokehouse's tarp packed down isn't much larger than a 4-season tarp with doors (ie. superfly). It's definetly worth it to me carry.

I have a really nice summer setup. Warbonnet hammock with a top+under quilt but it's really only rated for about -10C ... I suspect that the stove will keep going until 1-2 hours after I sleep but then the temp will start to drop.

Like fallkniven, I let my stove go out overnight. So the inside temperature goes to the ambient outdoor temperature rather quickly. The getting back up in the morning part is a bummer when it's -25C or so. One tends to get dressed at lightning speed. My sleep system allows me to just sleep in my base layers, a wool hat and some booties. So yes, you do need appropriately rated quilts for winter temperatures. Once the the fire is started in the stove, it doesn't take long for the tent to heat up nicely.

    Cheers

I've got the tent and the 2 dog stove, but I'm not backpacking it!
And if car camping, I'd rather have a cot than a hammock.
It's just easier to hop up or bed down.

These little stoves don't hold much wood...1 hour, maybe, 2 is wildly optimistic, imo.

They are awesome. I hang inside mine during deer season, using a Speer pipe stand. The best of all worlds.

Smokehouse's setup is light enough to backpack. Check his youtube videos.
