"hot tent" with wood stove for tarps/hammocks?

I was researching winter camping and using hot tents.

These seem really cool as they are a tent with thicker material and a franklin-style wood stove and chimney.

Would be great for multi-party camping as you could be inside with the warm stove and talk into the evening.

But I think to be idea (for me) it would use a hammock.

Has anyone ever rigged one of these up? Seems straight forward with some tarp hacking.

I think one could just have a thicker tarp that goes flush to the ground and then a hole for the chimney.

    Search "Turk".
He filed a trip report from up north, pulling a Pulk. They had a big winter tarp, a woodstove , guitar, and easychairs.

    It looked luxurious, if heavy.

I have the almost exact setup as oldgringo.

I have a new wood stove for it and it works great for my purposes. I won't win a gram weenie contest, but canvas is king for hot tents.

    Cheers

Wow. This stuff looks awesome. You guys don't disappoint.

Do you mind the extra weight? I think if you're using a sled the extra weight is worth it.

I also think the added comfort can easily be justified. The ability to retreat to your 'tent' and relax in your hammock without having to deal with the freezing temperatures makes this all doable I think.

Further, in case of tragedy, this means I can dry my clothes ...

With a 'hot tent' setup do you feel you need 4 season gear or do you think 3 season gear is ok?

I have a really nice summer setup. Warbonnet hammock with a top+under quilt but it's really only rated for about -10C ... I suspect that the stove will keep going until 1-2 hours after I sleep but then the temp will start to drop.
