    descending rings with suspension

Earlier this year I got a Traveller from Warbonnet. I'm using amsteel single line suspension with descending rings/clove hitch and I love the flexibility and simplicity. The problem is I noticed my rings are slightly deformed into an oval shape and I'm a little worried about eventually pulling them apart. What else could I use with that setup that's strong but not heavy?

Also, I'm using toggles/marlin spike to connect suspension to tree strap, and I'm thinking there must be a better way to do that.

    I appreciate your ideas,

Those can't be climbing rated descending rings....pick up a couple of SMC descending rings (@ 11 g) and don't worry about it any more.

I use the decender rings that the others have pointed out, They are super storng and there is no way they would ever come apart. I would suggust using those as well. As for the marlin spike hitch with toggles, thats just as good a way as any, and what a lot of people use.

Thanks! for your help Grizz, GMC and CMI. My rings came from REI and their website says they are 11 grams, SMC. (http://www.rei.com/product/471123/smc-descending-ring)
I weigh about 230, plus more for the hammock etc. Here's a pic of one of my rings. I don't see any cracks or other - what does SMC stand for? I would get my welder to make me some but I'm trying to go lighter not heavier.

I would suggest that you get "real" rappel rings that are forged and not rolled. I wouldn't hang from the SMC ones. They will deform and bend under a load.

Try these ones or something similar:

I'm using small steel rings, about half the size and diameter of a rap ring. .45$. Weight is probably the same as a rap ring. Steel is stronger and harder then aluminum. No bends yet.

Thanks Rylake - I did order some of those forged rings just now. Will report here as to their strength/bendability
