    backpacker... doubts about hammock

    Hi everybody,

I´ve been travelling for 2 years, hitch-hiking, but always with my tent.
This year I´ll go to Caribbean and Central America, and I have thought about the possibility of travelling with a Hammock. So, I´ve read loads of threads in this forum and other websites... and I´ve decided that I´ll travel since now only with my hammock, no more tent.

    My doubt is... Which hammock?

Now I´ll use in warm weather (and rains), but in the future.. who knows? I´m in Spain, so I´ve checked that the best (I think) hammock that I can get here is a Hennesy one, Explorador Deluxe one.
I´ve seen the Clark´s hammocks also... but it looks they are not available in Spain...

Any advice?? Anyone is more than useful!! My height is 1,85m.

    Thanks everybody!

The Hennessy is a good choice, especially if it is what's available. Ditch the tarp and get a bigger one. Personally, I'd go with a double bottom option down in the tropics; help keep the bugs from bugging you. Claytors ship worldwide and might be a good choice. Don't know much about the Clarks, not yet anyway.

    Welcome to an elevated existence.

No need to limit yourself to what's off the shelf.

Make your own. That way you have what you want, and you know how to do field repairs of necessary. Heck, if you go the really simple route, there won't be any repairs, just find another piece of 3m x 1.5m piece of fabric and keep on hitching.

    Thanks people...

I´m really falling in love with hammesy hammock. Looks easy to hang, and light, ... but I have found it has not any pocket or place to storage things.

Coz... where should I leave my backpack?? On the floor??

Someone knows if Clark JUngle hammocks are so easy to hang as Hammesy??

thanks (really excited about my shopping!!!)

If Warbonnet is shipping internationally, that's your best bet! Especially if you are 'falling in love' with the Hennessy. They are at least as easy to set-up, more and better storage, and (IMHO) much more comfortable.

As it seems that you are venturing into areas of increased risk of mosquito borne disease, I can not advise you to sleep in a hammock without a double bottom. You can always sleep in your clothing but, to me at least, that kind of defeats the purpose of using a hammock in warm weather. Hammocks are a great way to keep cool and make summer camping more enjoyable. Living in Florida, this was one of my main reasons for getting away from sleeping on the ground. I have tested many, many types of materials and weaves of fabrics and have not found a single layer that will protect me from bites. Combining a second layer, no matter how thin, seems to protect me completely. This can be done on any hammock by suspending a second layer, gathered at the ends, by shock cord. Have a good time. It seems like you will be hanging in some great places!

...and there came to be a day, all too soon, that I became aware that I could travel no more on my long journey. Though I did not arrive where I had planned, I believe that here is exactly where I am supposed to be...

And you don't have to have the zipper mod done so you don't have to crawl through the birth canal.
