if you dont want to spend the money on cuban fiber, check out warbonnet outdoors, the super fly with doors is a nice all weather tarp.its on sale right now too.if the cuban tarp is for you check out hammock gear.com.

Can you provide a link for the 7 gram chimney stove? I've found the chimney style stoves work better with the beer can pots than side burners!

    Nice trip report and pics.

Really enjoyed reading this report. I'm tempted to get some more info on that area and head out there with my youngest son for a 3-4 day.

On the trail meals...spot on about trying them out from the comfort of Ft Livingroom first. I usually try new concocotions a couple of times before I decide whether or not I'm going to use them on the trail.

One thing that can help too, is that you don't always have to dehydrate entire meals, but can dehydrate some of the components, and either premix your meals or do so on the trail. I typically keep a pretty good quantity of dehydrated chicken (easiest to use the canned chicken from the grocery store) and dehydrated veggies (I usually pick up a big bag of california mix) that I know can go into a lot of the rice or potato packets that you can pick up cheap at the grocery store.

Other than that, cooking up then dehydrating your meals (or even better, making larger than normal 'regular' meals and dehydrating the leftovers) FIRST can pretty much help you make sure you've got meals that taste good while you're out. Carrying packets of hot sauce, soy sauce, mustard, etc... can also help a meal turn out a little more palatable.

Thanks again for this post...like I said, Weasel and I might try heading out and checking this area out sometime.

Gideon, quick question. How was the parking area at the trailhead where you left your vehicle? Well lit, secure, etc...? Giving some serious thought to taking my sons out to check this out sometime in April or so, but nervous at the thought of being that far away from home, and then 2-3 days away from the car.

Thanks for sharing, love the pics. I keep Melatonin in my kit to help sleep. Pretty effective for me. I needed some assistance since my dog stays pretty active through the night...
