Love the Hammock, Love the History

My name is Andy, and I teach 8th grade history. In 2005 I was thinking of ways to motivate my students and as I was contemplating this laying in my back yard Columbian hammock, I had a great revelation. I had been reading a book called "Bruchko" about a missionary to an unknown tribe in Columbia. The tribe had no contact with the outside world when he met them in the 1960s. He wrote about their culture and how they slept in hammocks. If my curriculum lined up with hammocks, I figured I could hang one in my room for students to sit in when they do something awesome. And you can guess the rest of the story. Mayan hammock in my classroom, went on a mission trip to Peru and brought back 4 Peruvian for each bedroom at home, 1 Bolivian (gift from a bro in law), 1 Columbian (still in the backyard), 1 tablecloth(getting into DIY), 1 grand trunk, HH Asym and HH scout for me and my son when we go to the woods.

Lots of great history in hammocks! Search out writings by the guy credited with my signature quote if you want more. He is actually an art historian that spent too much time in South America and developed quite the love of hammocks in the process.

Welcome from Denver. Great way to get kids into hammocks! We've donated several pieces of furniture to our kids' teachers for reading corners. I hadn't even thought of a hammock, until now. I'll be bringing it up the next time I talk with them.

Love it when something old continues to be best. Well done, and welcome.
