New to Hammock Camping in Central Florida - Thanks for all the advise

I have been river camping in Florida 2-4 times a year for longer than I care to admit. Always looking for a lighter quicker way to go a friend of mine wanted to get a hammock set up, I usually go for comfort but the idea intrigued me.
After poking around the net for a couple of months I ended up with an economical set up of a Hammock Bliss No See-um paired with Kelty Noah 9 tarp.
Had my first night out on the Little-Big Econ river a couple of weeks ago and I've gotta say it was one of the best nights on the river in a long time. Temp in the 50's clear sky so I didn't put the tarp up and I slept like a baby, I'm hooked.
One thing I did different that I haven't seen mentioned here, I dug out my 50+ year old Coleman sleeping bag in leau of a pad or under/over-quilt set up. It's the old school kind that has about 2" thick of cotton batting for insulation. Since it won't compress down any smaller than a 5 gal bucket, I figured it wouldn't compress underneath me and leave me with cold butt. It worked great, can't wait to try colder temps in January (with maybe a pad or emergency blanket along just in case).
Anyway a belated thanks to everyone who posts helpful information here, so lurkers like me can get a better head start.

    Welcome!

My husband Timberrr and I found hammocks to be the perfect solution to riverside camping. Especially with all the cypress knots and often damp ground near waterways here in Florida.

If you are interested in getting to meet a few fellow hangers, the Third Annual Florida Hang is next month. There will be plenty of folks willing to share their knowledge of hammock camping and you will get a close up view of many different set-ups.

The Hang takes place each year at Buck Lake in Ocala National Forest (at least until such time as we outgrow it) over MLK weekend. That makes the coming hang Jan 18-21.

Activities include a daily planned paddle, a dinner bash (more like a weekend food fest), dayhikes, a gear raffle and more.. Let me find the link and I'll post it here for you if someone else has not beaten me to it.

Welcome to the madness/greatness that is hammocking (from Denver).

You learned one of the best things about hammocking, right from the beginning. Experiment with different items, especially those you already have. Temperatures, conditions and personal comfort/heat vary so greatly that it's important to find out what works for you - through experimentation usually.
