    Hammocks have shipped

I ordered my first hammock this week to take advantage of the holiday special and get the cub size one for my son. Ordered them pretty much stock except that I added one double bubble pad.

Anything else I will need for my set up? Mostly do 3 season camping and canoeing. I did order some whoopie slings, extended straps, dutch hooks and tarp flyz from Dutchware store.

Top and bottom insulation. At minimum current sleeping bag and CCF pad.

If you have the cash or ability to DIY, Under Quilts instead of pads, then save some more weight with 20 degree Top Quilts as well.

Great pickup for the both of you! My HH was one of my first hammocks as well.

Congrats on the new gear! +1 on figuring out the insulation piece (sleeping bag and pad or top quilt and underquilt, etc.).

Yep, gotta have insulation. That was my first rude awakening on my first trip out to hang... It was summer, so I thought I'd be ok since I've done without on tent outings in similar weather. However, the underside of you will get cold really easy. Do lots of reading of old posts here on the forum, and you will find plenty of advice about this. Wish I had done that before I started.

I did order the double bubble pad for the expedition. Have a thermal rest as well. Was going to get a ccd pad for the cub. Don't really want to buy an uq yet. I do have few 3 season sleeping bags.

I would contact Hennesy and see if you can do the tarp upgrade to the hex for $20. The stock tarps are sorta small. Your little guy will love his cub/scout my daughter loves hers.

There's usually a long process of denial before eventually realizing the pad just doesn't cut it. I went through it anyway. Very seldom do we have someone who is a big 'fan' of pads. Although, we do have a few.

I'm a 'big fan' of the Jarbridge River Synthetic UQs for insulation on a budget. Usually able to find them for around $80 used. I know folks who spend more filling their vehicles with gas! I have two Jarbridge UQs, and gladly recommend them whenever warranted.

Too late to upgrade the tarp but I have a couple decent rectangular ones for camping already. Definately an upgrade I will consider in the future.

$80 is reasonably many seem to cost more then the hammock. I will keep my eye open.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

I haven't had any issues staying dry with the standard tarp. It's been used in some pretty heavy rain as well. I'm still making a larger one for giving more protection around the general hammock area though.
