    Ridge Runner w Trekking poles.

I just got my Ridge Runner, but I am gonna have to wait until tomorrow to get to hang in it.

Has anybody used any trekking poles as spreader bars?

Brandon said that REI/komperdell Shock light poles work, but has anybody used anything other than these? I am having trouble finding decent, comfortable, looking poles with camera mounts and no anti-shock.

I may buy some cheapo poles like this:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...A1DVZDB2FO6YVD

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help you except to say that I'd gladly carry the RR pole set before I'd hike with anything other than well liked trekking poles. I also reserve my t-poles for use with the tarp.

This is what i use my trekking poles for too. I just put up with the extra 10 ounces. At least the lynx saves some weight...

Don't forget that ant shock poles are okay, as long as they allow lock out.

Grizzly Adams (professorHammock on youtube) has a video about adapting gossamer Gear Light Trek 4s to use for spreader bars. I am considering giving it a try. Both Light treks weight what the longer spreader bar weighs.

I've been sort of looking also. Someone told me that several of the EMS poles have camera mounts. Some of the Lekis have adapters you can buy...check out their web site.

Wondered the same thing. I don't see the advantage other than saving a very tiny bit of weight...

Weight and space savings would definitely be the two biggest (if only) benefits. 10 ounces is definitely more than a tiny bit to some ultralight hikers, though.

+1 on interested in hearing from someone who's done it. Mostly, about what the max weight someone would be comfortable doing it with. I still like bringing my trekking poles + RR poles as I use the trekking poles for other items. But, I'd consider just using the trekking poles on a longer hike where that extra half pound would make more of a difference.

The Gossamer Gear poles do not collapse down far enough to be used on the ridgerunners foot end. I will trying to investigate some replacement carbon fiber pole sets that should reduce the weight in half.
