ONP: North Fork Quinault Trail

I'm heading up there next week to volunteer with Big City Mountaineers...planning to hang, just curious if anyone has beta on the trail and if I will have any problems hanging. I figure it's the ONP and trees will be plentiful.

A lot of second growth forest there. Big trees but seems that 10-15' straps would give you lots of options. You'll find some trees too big though. For the record, I've hiked and ground slept, never hung there because I'm new to the off the ground crowd.

I have hung on the Hoh River Trail using the straps from Harbor Freight ratchet straps, which might be 15 ft, no longer. That was on one end, I may have even had some of the extra long HH tree Huggers on the other. I had plenty of strap, but sometime finding small enough trees required a lot of looking.

Here is a picture from one camp, and you can see that on the foot end I have the HH ropes and one of those cleat things that some of us used for a while, so that should mean HH huggers around the tree, and you can see the yellow HF straps on the other, looks like I had plenty. But a lot of spots had gigantic trees, often had to search a bit for usable trees like this.

I had no issues...I used 15ft tree straps from Dutchware and in most cases, they were overkill. We camped at Wolf Bar, Eclip and Trapper Creek on the N Fork of the Quinault River Trail. Lots of options! I even slept sans tarp two of the six nights we were out...one in the frontcountry, one in the backcountry!
