    recent temp difference

Last Sunday I tried out the tube cocoon again. Outside temperature saw a low of 34* at 6 am. Inside the cocoon it was 55*. After moving around a bit, the temp inside the cocoon rose to 61* (within 5 minutes of the 55* reading). My side "window" was too big this time (I had trouble blocking the cold air coming in)....so next time I'll decrease its size by pulling the top half of the cocoon down some more and using some duct tape to keep it in place.

Would it be possible to add a window flap to the inside (so you can adjust it from the hammock) that closes with hook&loop or snaps, maybe something that could be closed just enough to suit whatever conditions you are up against? Then you could make a large window to help with slightly warmer weather and close it up when it gets real cold or very windy. Just a thought, I don't know how it would work with your specific system.

I need to figure out what sort of sock I want and build it soon. I'm thinking more of a silnylon bottom half with untreated ripstop top, simple sleeve design.. I won't be doing crazy cold hammocking.

    side window

Yes, an adjustable side window on the cocoon would be possible.....but first I'd have to get the zipper modification (so I'll have access to the cocoon from inside the hammock). As things stand right now, the mosquito netting is in my way (HH Explorer Deluxe).

Oh, right, using a HH would cause problems on inside adjustments. No matter how you solve it, the temperature gain is fantastic.

I've only used a HH Expedition, but since I've not gotten a chance to get out this fall or winter, I've been reading up on everyone's posts and building my own gear, so I've got a few hammocks now that are open to the world on top. I may try a Sock with reflective material like you're doing since I'm such a cold sleeper. Thanks for posting about yours.
