    Winter Tarp Questions

Looking at a Winter Dream Tarp for my son. On Christmas day he will have a HH and a Zeppelin UQ 20* from UGQ.

So next purchase will be a winter tarp since the tarp that comes with the HH is more for summer and he'll be camping in Jan and Feb.

So what would be the advantage of the UGQ Winter Dream 12 over the Winter Dream 11?

I am guessing, as I don't know about these tarps, but it's the ridgeline length. The 12 should give you more room under the tarp, but the 11 should still give enough coverage....RR

For a winter tarp I would go with the bigger size. I like as much room as possible in case I have to stay under the tarp for a prolonged period of time.

    Here's a link to them.
I see that the 12 is 144" RL and 120" wide
the 11 is 132" RL and 120 wide.
    Both have doors

I'm wondering if the extra 12" of space is worth the extra $.

If the weight difference is negligible then I would go bigger... You will never regret having too much tarp in a storm... You will regret having too little... Now if the extra foot costs you several oz then no...

both of them are kinda on the heavy side, being winter tarps and really big. The extra foot adds an ounce, but I doubt he's going to be doing a lot of serious long distance winter hiking.

An ounce in winter gear ain't much... He's already carrying lots of extra, and an ounce ain't worth worrying about to me...

why not go with a Warbonnet SuperFly? or a MambaJamba?

from above, it sounds like weight is an issue. I can't see how unless one is doing a section hike.
