Hi tansey, Most set it up as a diamond shape vs square. Then it's plenty big.

That way the length is over 12.5'

Yes, Do the diamond pitch and go low for storms. I used one for a year before I bought a Macat and I never got wet.

I have one and pitched in a diamond it is plenty long. Also it packs down a whole lot smaller then the gigantic stuff sack that comes with it in case you were wondering

The empty sack on the far right is the one it came with the one in the middle is my home made stuff sack and of course the Nalgene bottle for size reference

I have the 9 footer, and 12 footer. From the few times I had hung, here is my take on it.

9 footer, is good for warm seasons, and shorter Hammocks.. EN Single.. In diamond set up mode. Covers just enough, to keep you dry and light breeze off yea.
12 footer.. covers EN single, And my DL 11 foot Hammock.. in Diamond mode. good coverage.. Tried the square mode but Rain was hitting the last 5 inches on both sides of the hammock. back to diamond mode. :-)

For the cost, I might seek a 16 footer so I can go Square mode, and have doors & keep the high winds & snow from coming in, and keep temps tad warmer..

I plan to do some winter camping with the 12 footer.. to test it out, in snow storms.. with Vehicle with in reach.. and keep the 9 footer for summer good weather use.

That is my limited use and skill level thoughts on it. They are nice tarps..

I've got the 12' and it works fine with my eno single. I'll pitch it on the diagonal or pup-tent style with the ends cinched in to block wind. Also makes it easy to have a front porch in nice weather. This past summer it made a great shelter for 6 of us waiting for the rain to pass. Mitchrob23 is right on in it being easy to pack down. Sometimes I just fold it flat and keep it on the top of my pack. First in, first out! You can't go wrong with the 9 and it's a great value!

I think your 9x9 will be fine for summer if set as a diamond. I used an 8x8 in several rain & hail storms ans I was fine.
I got the Noah 12x12 for the big trip this coming summer. It seems huge even as a square.

Because of the size of the 12, when you pitch it on the diamond, you can you run into issues on the distance between trees. This creates a bit of an overlap where I've had to wrap the "tail" around the tree.
