Question How to get pine pitch off tarp

I had my tarp pitched under some pine trees for several days in my backyard woods and it got covered with LOTS of tiny droplets of pitch that hardened. They are totally hard and dry and so many and thick that I'm sure they are adding ounces of weight to the tarp. Anybody know how I can clean them off the silnylon?

Alcohol hand gel or olive oil, can't remember the other stuff that works, there is another thread somewhere about it.

Goo Gone. I use it all the time. Pine sap is a way of life in Florida.

It has worked for me before to run my finger underneath the silnylon on a cold morning. It cracks apart and flakes off.

Thanks, that's the thread I forgot about. Looks like I'll try the denatured alcohol first. Since it's a big tarp it will take a lot so I think I'll rig the tarp over my parking pad so nothing will get on the ground or vegetation and do it on a warm day so the alky will evaporate. Probably put the alky in a sprayer to apply. I'll need to test a small patch first to make sure it won't affect the silnylon.

Won't denatured dissolve the silicon? That's what you use to thin the stuff, isn't it? o.O

Wouldn't be surprised if it also damaged nylon. That stuff eats a lot of stuff.

But that's all speculation, I have no idea, personally. I'd just be cautious and wait for someone who does know what they're talking about.

First put the tarp into the freezer and after a few hours take it out and gently scrape the hardened sap off the tarp with a dull table knife. Then use the solvent of your choice to remove any lingering material.

I'm not sure how tasty Goo Gone is, but I'm sure the bears would appreciate a little butter...

The threads about diluting silicone caulk are using paint thinner or mineral spirits, so maybe alcohol is OK. I will definitely test small corner patch first, before dousing the tarp.
