    new to hanging

Hey everyone! I'm just starting to get into backpacking. I just ordered one of the Yukon outfitters Hammocks that was posted on here yesterday. I was wondering if someone could let me know if that was a good choice for a hammock to try out. Thank you I can't wait to try it out!

Welcome to the fourm I really suggest that you watch shug's videos he is an informative, entertaining energizer bunny of information. You will see what I mean by energizer bunny. But he will cram so much awesome information in your head. I am still trying to sort it out by still watching his video. He usually looks at these posts he probably will comment right now but you want to know what to do next watch these.

Welcome to the forum, from Ohio. I'm not familiar with that hammock. Whoopies are a different way of suspending your hammock, rather than the use of the stock suspension which is usually not real great. Whoopies are easy to adjust, light weight amsteel, and it has amazing strength and low stretch.

Welcome from Denver! The Yukon hammock should do just fine as a starter to get a feel for things. As others have mentioned, it's also worth reading elsewhere on the forums and/or watching Shug's videos to learn more about insulation (staying warm is the number one complaint from new folks and while it's not complicated, does take some extra thinking to stay insulated underneath you), suspension from the trees, etc.

Derek Hansen's The Ultimate Hang is also a fantastic, easy to read primer.
