    First Hammock - HELP!!!!

I've been looking and searching and reviewing, and my head is swimming.

I'm a WWII geek; I love reading about it because 20 million men served in uniform, and every single one of them has a different point of view. I'm starting to find that the Hammock Community is a lot like that.

So, I'm still a tent camper, but now I'm 100% certain to hang myself come springtime. (pun intended.)

I had it narrowed down to just two:

    Hennesy Asym Expedition
    or
    Warbonnet Blackbird.

Until my friend just told me about the Dream Hammock Dangerbird. Wow!

So you see my dilemma....I *want* to get this right out of the gate. Anyone have one of those famous opinions one way or the other?

Or should I just string up my old mesh hammock and ponder it some more once the weather breaks?

Check the outings section of the forum, see if there's a "hang" scheduled anywhere near you. It's a great opportunity to try out all kinds of gear.

All three of the hammocks you're considering are great hammocks with a lot of folks who recommend them.

There's "no one true way"...the best thing is to try to find what works best FOR YOU.

If I had it to do again... Warbonnet black bird all the way... Love the looks, weight is negligible considering all the options... And if you don't like it, you can always sell it on the forum for 80-90% what you paid for it...

+1 Owl. And, umm, most of us end up with more than one anyway

I think you're on the right track. You have named three great hammocks, but I agree with other posters. It would be great for you to test out some gear to see what "fits" you best. And you can always sell what you don't like. Worst part of the whole thing is waiting on shipping times.

my suggestion would be to start out with a tablecloth hammock. They're inexpensive, you can make it to match the size of any hammock to try different hanging styles, positions, and you will learn a lot by trying different suspension systems. Plus the more you practice at home the better your experience will be on the trail!! good luck to you in your quest....

It's a WIDE gate - your options will be as far-reaching as your imagination!

Although I'm sure others will chime in with their opinions and favorite brands, all I can offer is the DIY perspective. All my gear is homemade, and I tweak it or remake it until I get it where I like it.

Any hammock should be a step up from tenting, and any "solid" hammock, whether bought or made, will be light years ahead of your mesh hammock in terms of comfort!

    Quick Start option

Run to Walmart pickup their Blue hammock for $25 and an inexpensive 8x10 tarp to get you hanging; join us at the Winter NEHHA hang, you can bring your tent and check out all the hammocks.

Personally I'm looking at a BlackBird , my son has a Hennessy Expedition and I'm currently using a Grand Trunk Ultralight till I upgrade

I'm going to get out with Skypainter in the spring before I pull the trigger.

Got some health issues going on; everything is on the "After treatment" list, but that last date is coming up quick.

    Thanks for all the input!
