    winter tarp help

Hi I'm still new to this and am looking for advise. I recently got a Warbonnet Black bird and would like a winter tarp for it. I am looking at a Speer winter tarp and Maccat gen 3 deluxe.so far I'm leaning to the Speer tarp. I like how you can be enclosed. Would appreciate any input with picture setup configurations to help me decide. Thanks

The Warbonnet superfly looks supercool. You could check that one out. Here are some pics from someone who used his recently. I don't really know how to order one, except to PM Warbonnetguy and ask.

Those are both good tarps. If you are going to use it in the winter, the Speer really does block the wind. Warbonnet guy makes a tarp that closes too if you want it feel at home with your BB. The maccat is a top quality tarp. The differences are that the Macat is lighter, less wind protection, and better quality. The SWT doesn't have the grossgrain around the edges and the sewing isn't as perfect at OES tarps. Not that the speers sewing is bad, but Brian's from OES is perfect. I'm probably the wrong person to answer this b/c I couln't make up my mind and bought both. One for winter and one for summer.

Ya what Dutch said!!!! I have both the superfly and the MCCAT Deluxe and both are great tarps with great workmanship. The McCat tarp is great for when you know your not going to be haveing bad wind&rain or snow it gives great coverage for when you are out and there might be a chance of rain or snow but when the wind is blowing at you I would much prefer the SUPERFLY it allows you to completely close off the world out side. Both are pretty easy to put up tho the Deluxe is a bit quicker from my stand point there are not as many things to tie out although you can use less of the tie outs on the superfly I find that it takes me a bit longer to put it out and make it right.

Now this is coming from someone who has two Clark models that have tarp and weather shield if I were in a hammock that is completely open to the elements much like the BlackBird or ENO I would most certainly use the SUPERFLY I just love that thing but I really don't lay in bed looking at the star's at night I am usually in there reading and listin to music tell I fall asleep.

either one you get will be a great tarp just look at what kind of things you will be doing with your hammock and what kind of weather your going to be putting yourself and the hammock in.

I'll throw in a strong second for the SuperFly. I can't knock the Speer Winter Tarp, but I sure do like my SuperFlies!

I slept in my SuperFly Saturday night and it was awesome. I pitched it about 6 inches off the ground and I was very protected. That's all I've got to say about that. LOL mule

I've got the JRB Hammock Hut, and a custom OES tarp that I'm going to pitch as a winter tarp. Both are very high quality craftmanship as well. I've seen the Speer winter tarp in person, and was impressed with that too. Those are just some other options.

The only large, winter-type tarp I've ever used is the Speer Winter Tarp. I give it . However, I've heard nothing but good about the large JRB tarp and their Hammock Hut. Of course, a lot of folks have given glowing reviews to all the Warbonnet stuff as well.

Wish I had my Claytor Jungle hammock here in Indiana the temp is 23 degrees with a bit of a breeze. That would be a fair test.
