I left my truck there once and hiked down from carvers only to find the windows busted out and my stuff thrown out all over the place.(I didn't have anything worth stealing back then). The car that was next to mine was stolen!. It is a notoriously bad place to leave a vehicle and it has been noted in many AT publications over the years. I don't have a solution for you though... you may go to WhiteBlaze.net and see if anyone on there has any ideas. If you are bringing a phone you could call a shuttle when you reach 19E and leave a second car in nearby town of Roan Mtn. Sorry to throw this at ya... just lookin out.

I don't know any. I usually get my wife to come get me=) It's about an hour from my house. You may try emailing someone at this link. http://www.roanmountain.com/statepark.htm

If I am available I would do it. How many people are going?

Not sure yet ? I just spoke to someone at the Hostile down the road and they said about a 1/4 mile down the road is a Inn that would only charge a couple bucks to park there !

I understand that! I'm lucky to make this one ! I'm doing a 68 mile trek through the Shennandoa in march and I'm using this one as a warm up hike!

Mountain Harbor is right there at 19E and he does shuttles also. I have used him a couple of times. He has a lot for parking cars.

As we get closer just want to post that the hang is still on with the Rice Fields in Pearisburg Va. as the backup if the weather on Roan goes to the bad side! I like a good winter hike but not below zero temps !

The weather for that one is a bit of a crap shoot. Having participated in the RHK Higher Colder hang the last couple of years in February, the warmest it has been was 20 and the coldest was a bit under 0. Hiking on the exposed bald will certainly get your attention if there is much wind. Hiking down to 19E can be a bit tricky if the rocks are iced over. Snow can vary from slush to six feet.

With that being said, put me down as a "maybe". I've got some inner masochism that needs to be let out for a walk every now and then.
