Dyneema- do I fuse it after cutting?

My sons WBBB arrived today with a new mambajamba tarp, also got 100 feet of dyneema. The hammock is great and is very comfortable, before cutting the dyneema for use with the tarp, how do I ensure the ends don't fray? Read a few threads but not sure since I have never braided anything, can you fuse it with heat?

    Thanks.

When you say Dyneema, do you mean zing it or lash it. If so you can heat it or back splice it. However they will do very little fraying. I don't do anything to my personal stuff.

Most folk splice dyneema braids so there is no loose end to fuse and it looks very tidy, opie has some great pictures and instructions on various threads and it's not difficult to do providing you have a piece of wire and a knitting needle. I have spliced 1.5mm without too much hassle.

It can be fused if you don't want to splice it. you can tie an overhand knot then heat the end to tidy it up.

It would probably help folk to know what Dyneema you have bought.

Most splicing that goes on around here is with hollow-cored rope. Very simple to splice unlike traditional rope.

It is 100 feet of dyneema cord that I ordered with the Hammock from Warbonnet. i will use it to create cords for the tarp.

Yeah, backsplice is the way to go. Gives a nice finished look.

Most of the time I backsplice my Amsteel just to give a finished look. I tried melting the ends on the first few soft shackles (nacrabiners) that I made, and I'm not happy with the results. It melts just fine, but seems to have sharp barbs or points that stick out and catch the small loop every time I open or close the shackle.

After the first few I'd tie the big diamond knot, then load the soft shackle, and then cut off the loose ends, leaving a quarter to half inch. If the knot has been loaded, the rope will fray back to the knot, and stays soft, but won't degrade the knot.

You can fuse it, abuse it, peruse it, and then cruise it on your tarp. Whatever you choose
