    Shortest possible Cont. Loop?

Im working on a tarp setup where I can get a 11' hammock.as close to the ridgeline as possible. Then supplementing tarp with other picecs of gear. ......So in less words Im working on my Asym Setup.

Im using a whoopie hook suspension and the one problem Im facing is rain....my whoopie hooks are out in the rain....6" of continuos loop. Im pushing everything already as far as weight limits...fabric...cordage. etc. Im using amsteel loops though for the whoopie hooks on.dynaglide whoopies.

*Whats the shortest I can make a continuous loop and still hold up my 6'7" 230 lbs. Id like to shorten it down a couple inches but dont wanna end up on the cold hard ground.

Right now Im trying a 110" ridgleine on my hammock and a 132" (actaully 130") ridge line on my tarp. But the cont loops are adding >5" to the drip points which is about all my coverage

    Thanks!

This is a great question I never even thought of.

On one of my continuous loops I made about a month ago,
My splicing tool got caught up and broke and I could not finish the continuous loop,
so I lock brummeled it for the rest of the length of the loop (
    maybe 8 times or so).
    Have had no problems whatsover.
    But I'm not 6'7" !!
(it ended up being around 8")

Instead of a buried continuous loop, use a loop with a double or triple fisherman's knot. You can make that very small.

Or you could wrap the loop around the hammock more than once (ala Prussic wrap style) to shorten the length of the loop that sticks out from the end of the hammock. No extra tricky splicing or knots, same loops just consumed more off at the hammock rather than hanging off into space.

so simple! sometimes I way over engineer things. Thanks

Forgot to mention. My hammock is channeled
....but with a lil fishin....i got it to double pass through a sewn channel! Perfect length

I must be missing something because I am using what appears to be the same setup you describe, yet my whoopie hooks remain under the tarp.

The tarp (HG 4S CF) is 130 inches long. I have an 11 ft. hammock with a 110 inch ridgeline (BIAS WWM). The continuous loops through the end channels add about 4.5 inches (x 2) to the length of the hammock ridgeline for a total of 119 inches.

So if the tarp is a 130-inch ridgeline, then 130 minus 119 equals 11 inches. That gives me 5.5 inches of tarp coverage over each end of the hammock, and my whoopie hooks are under the tarp.

I think BIAS makes their continuous loops starting with 28 inches of Amsteel with 5.5 inch buries, yielding a loop that, when larksheaded through the end channel, adds about 4.5 inches of length (x2).

I have a tablecloth hammock with end channels that uses even smaller continuous loops made from Dynaglide. I don't remember the length of Dynaglide I started with, but I think it was 26 inches with 5 inch buries. I also added some lock stitches just to keep the buries from slipping. I haven't hit the ground yet, but you outweigh me by 80 lbs.

I was also experimenting with Amsteel dogbones instead of continuous loops after reading a post on JacksRBetter's website at:

    http://www.jacksrbetter.com/uncatego...mid-year-2012/

The dogbones, while lighter, were not any shorter (as part of the hammock ridgeline), so that didn't go anywhere.

That only works with whipped ends, right? I've tried to feed a continuous loop through my end channels twice, but it's too unwieldy to work with and doesn't really shorten the loop that much.
