I have plenty of time to practice with it should I decide to buy one. I also feel like the SS is a more all-in-one package.

I guess maybe I will look at the DIY forum though to see if maybe there isn't a post on how to make a good UQ easily and cheaply. If it seems easy enough I may give it a go.

The answer is no, but I would buy it if you think I'll need it.
In the temps you're discussing, I think an overcover would help.

Here are the directions for the first one I made. I had a few stuff sacks and a couple of basic hammocks under my belt when I tried my hand at the KAQ. I cursed a little bit, but it wasn't nearly as difficult as I had convinced myself it would be. Use some of the better insulation available these days and adjust the layers to meet the temp requirements you're seeking. It will be big and bulky, but it will keep you warm and require much less in terms of learning.
    Trust nobody!

i thought about this ss system when i bought my first hammock.do you mind sharing the price?a high percentage of people sell used equipment ,because it doesnt work for them,or they want lighter gear after they realize that there are other options.how much does the ss system weigh?is it designed to fit your hammock ,or will there be gaps between you hammock and insulation(thats where jack frost lives).does your friend still hang?if so that would be a good indicater of the usefulness of the system in his eyes.ask him point blank if i buy this will it become something i replace soon like you.you could probably do the same thing with a walmart pad over the top of a winshield sun screen, hang your poncho under your hammock to block the wind.i sure dont want to seem negative, im not.i hope what ever decision you make it works for you.good luck
