    Question HH Zipper Mod

I am thinking about putting zippers on my HH but I have a couple of questions. Is any disassembly required or do you simply cut the bugnet? Is there any special method of sewing a zipper to the bug net. I know there are folks who offer this service but I haven't fired up the Kenmore lately and I'm getting itchy. And no, I don't have any rashes!!!!

    Happy Holidays to all
    Thanks, Greg

From a personal observation... I would just as soon pay 2Q/ZQ to do that job than do it myself. The price is reasonable and the job is extremely professional from my understanding. When I crank up the sewing machine I am making other gear that is more expensive to buy - like quilts.. YMMV.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

My wife ran a sewing machine part time in a factory for about a year while she was in nursing school many years ago. She has always had "skilled hands". She HATES sewing in zippers. If you feel froggy, then jump on it. My hammock will go to 2Q for the mod.

i suggest 2Q as well. with respect to your sewing skills, why risk a good hammock? put it in good hands with 2Q/ZQ.

Hmmm... my least favorite hammock is my HH. The only thing that will save it would be the zipper mod. I've got some zippers lying around and I've sewn zippers, so I may get "froggy" myself and do the 1/2 zip mod in an effort to re-enjoy my HH. After that I've still got to modify the suspension on it (to straps, 'biners, and possibly tri rings), and then make the ridgeline removeable, etc. etc. etc. as Yule Brenner used to say.

Hi NCPatrick. I hope your Kenmore is still running fine for you. This mod will go on three hammocks, mine, my wife's and my son's. I have done two KA quilts and two Black Cat tarps, all with very good results. Pics in my gallery. Didn't HC4U do this mod once? If I recall he may have put instructions up. At any rate I was just looking for some tips on doing it.

a picture is worth 1000 words

Check out 2Questions gallery, towards the end. He's put a number of very informative pictures there, showing what to do at the "trouble spots": at the ends, and around the area where the hammock pull-outs are.

Hi gstepclassical! Long time no see...

I don't think it was HC4U that did this "back in the day". I remember Jazilla put a small zipper in his a couple of years ago. 2Questions has some great pictures in the gallery of the various zipper mods he and his wife offer.

Here's how I was going to go about it:

-cut the bugnet, perhaps with a razorblade, where I will be putting the zipper.
-then sew some bias tape or other border to reinforce the bugnet especially, but maybe on the other side too, depending...
-then sew on the non-separating, coil zipper.

Mine will have two double-sided zipper pulls installed, butting heads with each other, and the ends of the zipper will be closed with grosgrain.
