    Newbie in Fort Worth, Texas

I just wanted to say "HI' to you all, and introduce myself. Im married with three kids (not much spare time)! I am a late blummer to the hammock world and even camping in general. I love the outdoors and that I guess is the first step! I have been watching Shug's videos on youtube which are very informative and that guy is down right funny!

I don't have any gear, but hoping that will change so I can get out into the woods. I have found great information already and look forward to possible meeting and hanging with some of you all in the future.

Awesome. More Texas folk! I'm in the DFW area as well. Lots of groop hangs coming up. Get that gear and get out there

Nothing wrong with that. There's a lot to take in, so just be sure and pace yourself. If you have any questions, feel free to post 'em here, or shoot me a pm and I'll do my best to answer them. Welcome to the forum.

I'm from south Texas... You can start off pretty cheap, grand trunk nano ultra light runs about $20 on amazon, some $10 ratchet straps from Walmart and you can get air born... Or if you have the diy inclination, table cloth factory.com has table cloths that can be turned into hammock pretty easily, caveman has a thread about his method which has worked for me... And you can get set up for about $30 with whoopie slings DIYd and the same tree straps...

So welcome and try to sip slowly from this proverbial fire hose that are forums... Have fun... Caveman knows more than I, but your welcome to pm me as well...

Welcome from Denver! Shug's videos are a great way to start learning. The great thing about hammocks is you can get in very inexpensively (making a DIY tablecloth hammock that is very comfy) and move up from there.

    Hi and Welcome,
Look at purchasing a book, "The Ultimate Hang" CLICK THISYou don't say where you live in this vast state, but hooking up with someone nearby and trying their gear, helps a ton.
Check out all of Shug's YOUTUBE video's. Entertaining and very informative and great for all us "visual" learners. CLICK THIS for Shugs channel (be prepared to spend hours and hours watching his circus antics (riding a unicycle into his hammock) and learning from his hammock gear videos).
Then, build a cheat-sheet/spreadsheet of prices for hammocks, top quilts (TQ), Under quilts (UQ), suspensions and such. then watch this places 'for sale' like a hawk. You will know a good deal when you see it and can be the hawk, swooping in for good used gear at great prices. Both my TQ, both my UQ, my hammock and one tarp, were all purchased that way.
