    Hammock newbie here

Well, thanks to my wife I now have a Hennessey Expedition. So, get ready as I start asking all kinds of questions. Hopefully, I'll find most of the answers through searching, but I may ask some that have already been asked and answered. The first one I have is about the pad. Do most of you that use a pad use the blue closed cell foam?

    TIA
    Ron

When I use a pad, it's an insulated inflatable - the Exped Downmat 7. I have sweaty-back issues when I use CCF under my torso. Sometimes I use CCF under my legs and it's fine.

Welcome Ghosthiker. I do use a pad, but it is different. I bought a Big Agnus Sleeping Bag and it has a compartment to slide in a pad. That way you can't roll off in the middle of the night. I also HIGHLY recommend you get Mod #2 done to your new hammock. There is no better investment on a Hennesy.

I've been using the blue CCF pad, and recently acquired an Exped Downmat 7 short-mmmm comfy! I'm thinking about switching from the blue CCF to an evazote pad, as some here have claimed that there is a big difference in insulating properties between the two. I'm using a DIY gearskin, so a CCF pad is a given.

    Welcome to the site Ghosthiker.

When I used a Hennessy Expedition,I used a wally world blue pad(s) as well as a Thermarest ridgerest. I used a Speer SPE. It really worked great.

Be sure to check out Jeffs hammock camping section. Great stuff.

I used a Therm-a-Rest Ridge Rest before I got an underquilt. I'll probably add that back to my gear along with a hammock sock for the upcoming Winter Hang.

I have an evazote that I have used a lot, and it is much warmer. It still offers no more cushioning though, but it is warmer compared to the same thickness blue ccf. The cushioning issue is the main reason I have switched from tent to hammock.
