    PolyCro Sheets

For those who are interested, Gossamer Gear now has a larger polycro tarp available in addition to the 40" by 96" sheet which is sold two per package and costs $9.95. The new sheet is 72" by 96" and costs $9.

    Here's the link:

Here's a note from them explaining that there's a change in the weight:

As of 8-29-2012 the Large polycryo has changed from a 75 gauge material to a 100 gauge material. We are no longer able to obtain the 75 gauge. Please check the SPECS, as the weight has increased slightly.

For those that have followed the clear tarp threads, two of these together could make a 12'x8' tarp for $18 and a little over 7oz. Just add tape and tie outs. Perhaps not as strong as cuben or sil, but way cheaper.

Question: Do you think this material is strong enough to be suitable to use as an inexpensive tarp? (Could wrap cord around a small encircled stone to secure tie-outs).

Is it as strong as sil or cuben? No. But would it make for a nice tarp when you are expecting mild weather. Probably be fine. Here are a couple treads, some from another forum.

Even with good scouting Ive had a rogue limb fall. once tering my cuben a couple inches. Wonder what the effect would be on plastic?? How would.the corners take to a taught pitch. I have no experience but I think.it would strectch wouldnt it. That and the greenhouse effect to boot.

I've been using polycro in my Trailstar as a groundsheet, the same piece has lasted over twelve months and is still going strong.
