New use for my homemade hammock

so, I made this hammock out of wal mart $1 fabric.

It rained this weekend while I was camping, we were camped out in a bluff shelter, so we stayed dry, I tried several configureations to hand inside the bluff, but the roof was too low to allow me to tie to anything and still hang.

    anyway.

when I made the hammock a couple of months ago, I sewed a nylon web loop onto each corner.

this came in VERY handy when it got windy one night.

    check out these photos.
the stack of rocks was the initial attempt at a wind break, it worked a little, but the wind was blowing rain inside, the hammock as a tarp made for a MUCH more comfortable experience overall!

It wasnt so bad, a ful length Z rest, with a full length Insul Max thermo over it, in a bed of leaves. haha

I had planned on the ground, since the weather was supposed to be VERY stormy.

I took the hammock, thinking I could nap if the weather broke, but when it did stop storming, I was busy cooking/filtering/ or hiking!

    Cool setup, great site.

I don't know that I could stand it under that big rock, though! On second thought, if it collapsed on me I'd never know it!

I thought about that more than once, we had some gusts of wind that felt like 60+ MPH, the HUGE trees were swaying, and I started thinking about the MASSIVE rock I was sleeping under..

    haha.

YES, I said on the ground, let me clarify...

I havent had time to make my tarp yet, thats ONE reason.
among other people, my 10 year old son was there, we made him a short hammock, no tarp for him yet either.

and I KNEW it was going to rain, so I had simply planned to be DRY in the bluff on the ground.

Im making tarps soon, then you need not worry about my man card Jeff.

    Thanks for your concern though.

Cool pics. I saw alot of them at red river gorge, ky last weekend. They look cool to sleep in. But you are not supposed to due to Indain artifacts and a rare floor that only is found there.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

Fossil discussion moved to the non-hammock forum.
