Patience grasshopper..
I made a set of UCRs last night using Sgt Rock's instructive video he posted in late December. I made a couple comments about what I learned in a comment to his video.
I sat down yesterday and designed the 4' wide footbox hammock I will soon build. I came up with a (maybe) new idea to cut the triangle with the long edge along the width of the material so that it is strong along what will become the edge of the hammock. It also saves some material. I'll have to see how that turns out when I make the hammock.
But today, I get to play with some new UCRs over the snow.

Welcome Back
Welcome back =)
"Think Outside the Tent"
Glad you are back Risk, I still visit your website monthly for ideas and reminders....lots of inspiration from your adventures.
Thanks!
Risk, I, too am one who read and re-read your site many times in my early days of backpacking and hammocking. I found your site while researching DIY stoves, and wondered why anyone in their right mind would camp in a hammock. Enter SGT Rock and Just Jeff and I started to see the benefits. Found HF and realized there were many more crazy people than I thought who shared my new insanity.
Then my children became old enough to try hammocking with me, and needing to make hammocks for them, I returned again to your site for guidance. The first hammock I made was a copy of your bugnet hammock, and it served my son well.
So, let me say it is indeed a pleasure to write a humble "thank you" to one of the legends that I never thought I'd get to meet. Hopefully you will be able to make it to an area hang or two. I am really looking forward to shaking your hand one day, sir.
PS: I am definitely "a risk."

"I fish because I love to; because I love the environs where trout are found, which are invariably beautiful... because, in a world where most men seem to spend their lives doing things they hate, my fishing is at once an endless source of delight and an act of small rebellion; because trout do not lie or cheat and cannot be bought or bribed or impressed by power, but respond only to quietude and humility and endless patience...." --Robert Traver
Welcome back Risk. You dont know me probably, but I know your site from way back when I first started hammocking. Even before I joined HF circa 2006 I believe.
Glad to meet another Risk... a reference to an old email by a guy that is still a friend. I posted it on my site years ago!
What part of Northern KY are you in? I grew up in Covington, did my family practice residency there, lived off the Richwood exit for several years, practiced medicine in Walton with Dr Waller. I learned to fly at Greater Cincinnati. That was all prior to Air Force years. I visit once or twice a month from Dayton, as my parents and siblings still live there. Making a Ky hang is easy. Red River Gorge is a beautiful place to do some hiking and hanging.

Yeah. I was quite active in the days of the old Yahoo group on hammock camping. I did not transition well to the HF. So I am a couple thousand posts behind the old heads on the list.
But good hobbies tend to get recycled. After several years away from much hiking, I am all excited about the sport and hammock development springs from a desire to comfortably camp in woods with sloping rocky floors at a minimal pack weight.
