I often tie off to trees to go into porch mode and I find the truckers hitch excels in that regard. I just secure it with a slippery half-hitch and it's untied with a pull of the string.

Yeah I know what they are, I use them all the time at work. It's also known as a coonass come-a-long. It's used to put major tension or pull things over like a pulley system. It's way over kill and ridiculous for guy outs.

You don't have to use it to its maximum capacity. My car probably does 100 mph but I don't get in and drive that fast everywhere I go. Just because it '"can" doesn't mean you "have" to.

On the Whoopiesling website, I found tarp tieouts, which are great. These are 8' of 1.75 yellow zing it with a zingit loop larks headed onto the line

The idea is to larks head the loop onto the tarp's tieout loop, then all adjustments can be done under the tarp. This works very much like a UCR, but there is no long bury. Plus, there is a full 8' of line to work with if you need to tie off to a tree or rock at some distance.

I started with just using tautline hitch then upgraded to whoopies for my tarp. It works really nice actually and the bury can be fairly short when using lash-it. With that said, I am likely going to move to a line with prussik knot. HYOH

Another option I like to use if you use some shock cord to make self-tensioning lines, then you can use the prusik to loop/hook to the stake, leaving the extra cord wrapped up on the ground. No need for adjustment later since the shock cord will take up any slack.

I have always loved using the tautline hitch- easy to tie, versatile and very adjustable! IMHO if you learn the tautline and bowline you can concur the world.

I'm all or nothing, haha. I like the self tensioner because I have silnylon.
