    Superfly w/ pole mod?

I have a Superfly ordered. Has anyone tried a pole mod with this tarp? I have a Guide Gear tarp, and did the inside poles with it. It really opens it up, and keeps the tarp away from the hammock. Also, it keeps the Guy lines towards the inside, so when walking around outside, there is nothing to trip over. I have also seen the outside pole mod, it seems to open the tarp up just as well as the inside pole. Advantage of the outside poles, is shorter, which means lighter poles.

    Any ideas/suggestions?

    Thanks.....RR

But I have seen someone use their hiking pole doing and exterior pole mod on the super fly... Just two pieces of string to pull the tie outs up and the pole laying perpendicular to the ridgeline... He had a continuous ridgeline so it took the weight, and since he already had the stick it didn't add any pack weight..

Thanks, I had forgot about using an couple of old arrows for an outside pull. I do have a couple, and tried this with a tarp, once. Seemed to work OK. I guess, I'll wait for the tarp to arrive, hang it, and then go from there. Kind of jumped the gun on asking before I even have the tarp. Just trying to plan ahead ........... RR

    Hey RoadRunner,

ZQ did the mod on my SuperFly for the inside pole mod. The complete mod was two pole pockets with additional loop for extra tie downs and an small piece of grossgrain to open up the pocket for pole insertion. Additionally there is a loop of fabric stitched to the ridgeline to hold the pole in place. Here is the thread that contains some pics: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=57848

This mod does improve the rigidity of this large tarp. Recently I was out in some substantial winds and all my stakes stayed in the ground and the tarp was stable. I would recommend the mod...just seam seal it and you should have no problems.

Haaa, just finished reading your thread, before checking this one. I have a little time to decide what to do, as I just ordered my Superfly. Thanks for the advise, and like the look of yours.....RR

Check out the no sew mod if you're looking to experiment without permanently altering your tarp.
