I was wondering if anyone tried this for insulation for an UQ.
It sais it's breatheable.

Insultbright is what is in hot pads and oven mitts. In backpacking one use is as the insulator in Freezerbag Cozies. It's fairly thin and I doubt it has enough loft to keep you warm with just one layer
so it's not breathable?

It's definitely breathable. It's like a thin, dense quilt batting
I find alone it is marginally better than regular fleece. It has absolutely no wind resistance in my experience. I use a yard of it inside of my UQ to extend the range by 5°-10°. It could possibly be used as a warm weather UQ if combined with another material that added some wind resistance though.

Haven't used the insul-bright but have used the similar insul-fleece by Pellon. It is a perforated mylar sheet with thin fleece layers on both sides. As a supplement to a UQ it will add some to the temp range as Catavarie stated.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
so then I could use it as a layer or two for an UQ?
any cons?

Insulbrite has it's uses, but, for something as big as a UQ it would be somewhat stiff, and wouldn't fold up, or compress down very small. For insulbrite's metallic heat reflective propertys to be of benifit, it would have to be less than about a 1/4" from your skin. But, it does not drape well, and to hang it underneath a hammock would be problematic. Perhaps if you cut darts, so as to shape it to a hammock-like configuration. But, it would not be wind proof on it's own. Wind resistant perhaps.
I do use it in other items, principly panels in clothing. I made a back panel insert for a disposible construction clean-up 'Tyvek-like' hooded jacket top I bought at a dollar store, and, it is just super for insulative warmth.
In my experience, there has been no issue with condensation. I used a big piece of insulbrite in my HH SS. Because it was tight up against the hammock, it performed very well, but, again, it does not compress down enough for me, to be practical at that size. IMO

I have a UQ I made out of the stuff sitting on a shelf in the basement. Never got around to trying it out. It's nothing special but, your welome to it if you want.
Directionally challenged...comicly so.
Not all who wonder are lost...But I'm probably just lost.
God I love this forum. You guys are awesome. Dos asks a question, you guys educate us,
and then some one offers her an UQ made of the stuff to try out. Seriously cool.
