I read though some of those TSA regulations, and the scissors? Much more dangerous than the inch and a half pocket knife my dad had to mail to himself...

All these stories have me wondering, has anyone here gotten stranded in an airport and used their hammock? Every time I see stranded passengers, they all look very, very uncomfortable...
I know I'm not alone... EVERYWHERE I go, I'm analyzing potential hanging spots. It varies by terminal but here seem to be definitely possible. I wonder how the authorities would look on a hammock... it might be against regulations to sleep comfortably in an airport.

Hammocking in SoCal
Great article, I have started carrying one of my "small" hammocks with me when I travel just in case. This past ski season I was able to string it up from two doorways (hinges) and sleep comfortably while others were on the floor. That alone convinced my buddies to get hammocks...I should get some kind of kickback I think.I've never had the gall to do it, but I did see this article.

If you guys really want to get through the TSA lnes without a hassle, listen to to an episode or two of the No Agenda Podcast. It's a brilliant tip, and its perfectly legal and reasonable. I won't be the one to put it in writing in a searchable medium, but they don't go too many shows between mentions of it.
Why were they interested in your boots? Were they threatened or impressed by them? Either way, what boots are they?
Other than the other things already pointed out. I can't say enough about putting the sharp and pointy items in you checked, and as for locking your bag just use a tsa approved lock or better yet zip ties
One good way to keep TSA out of your checked bags: declare a firearm in them. If you check a bag with a gun, they will lock it up tight. Also, a starter pistol counts as a firearm.
After being stranded a dew times in airports, I always carry my hammock and two 20" pieces of old tire tube. I have been able to hang successfully at Denver, Indianapolis, San Jose, LAX, Newark, Chicago (not overnight) and Philly. I always ask permission before hanging and sometimes I get offered to hang in a separate room. I use the rubber pieces to hang from pillars and metal columns to prevent slipping.
That 20" of old bike tire is an ingenious idea PatT!
