I made it! (w a little help from Troll)

    Hello All.
Well it's nice to be here. Thanks to Troll for helping me figure out why I had a log-in problem

It's raining/snowing "slush" here in central Virginia so a good day to be inside.
Been lurking for a while now (I'm a bit of a DIY gear-head) and figured it was time to join the crowd.

New to hammocks - just thinking about what would suit best. I love kayaking - some river, some ocean (almost always fishing, though I made a sail for the kayak and when the wind is right it's great to just enjoy the ride).

Rivers almost always mean trees, but ocean/sound it can be a challenge so I'm thinking something that can be pitched on the sand as well.
Most likely I'll find no one shoe fits best but that's OK - like I said, bit of a gear-head half the fun is making things.

    Hope everyone has great holidays!
    Jim

Welcome to the forums VA Jim!
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

    Welcome Jim!

There are some portable options for hanging over sand. If you can find ground anchors that will hold in sand then you can use a bipod setup.

There is a nice paddling forum in the Donating Member's section

welcome to Hammock Forums and hey from high point nc.
Charlottesville is a very fun town. i've always wanted to hang at Monticello.
i don't think i could ever get permission so that hang probably won't happen.
