    Sleeping-Bag modify no zipper pod.

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has tried to modify a sleeping bag by removing the zippers and sewing up the sides. After that, adding drawstring on both ends so that it can easily be slipped over the hammock and used as a pea pod. This would end up looking like the blizzard survival tube, except a sleeping bag. So does this sound good and doable? Please respond.
I may try to modify a sleeping bag like this if I can, I'm just trying to get as much information as possible.

Not exactly as you describe but a pod-style non-the-less......
Works wonderfully for my deep winter camping.

Has anyone cut a slit on the bottom of a down bag and added Velcro for a closure setuP?

Hey Shug could that be used on a bridge hammock or would there be too much space up top to be really effective?

Not Shug here, but I don't think it could be done with any thing normal sized. Especially because of the wide ends and spreader bars. But if you had or made something big enough, you could do it probably.

I cut a hole and put in draw strings on the foot but I did not remove the zipper. when I did get the zipper fully closed I noticed the bag (golite XL) down would compress around my shoulders and arms making it less effective. When I unzipped it slightly it loosened and worked better. If you remove the zipper you are removing the ability to adjust.

I have had some luck with a double bag system 3/4 bag from the top and 3/4 from the bottom. But that's another story.

I have done this. It makes it much easier to sleep, and more comfortable. The way I did this is by cutting a hole in the end of my sleeping bag, and and sowing a shoe lace in the end to tighten it. And making a hole at the back of the hood so you can still use it.

Go forth and give 'em hell...
