Twin sized down comforter as TQ

I was just offered a twin size down comforter to use as a TQ. In fact I was offered two. Neither tell me how much down is in them but one is heavy 6 pounds heavy and is so full it won't compress much. The second one is 3 pounds 2 oz and very compressable.

My thought is to put a foot box in it and give it a try with the lighter one. My questions are: Has anyone tried this before with a comforter? If so how did it turn out? Any suggestions? My next question is based on weight is there any way for me to determine the R value?

Any other input would be apperciated.

    Thanks!

I've done that with a synthetic quilt. Other than being too big for a hammock, it works just fine. You don't need a full box...just fold it in half and stitch across the bottom. If you don't want to compromise the utility of the quilt, Velcro or a few snaps will do.

Thanks for the suggestions Dave. I would prefer not to do anything that would keep me from returning it should it not work out.

I would not use it outdoors if the outer covering is cotton or linen...synthetic only...cotton sucks in way too moisture to be much good outdoors!

I was thinking of making a rip stop cover for it? Would that work?
