    Under quilt questions

So I'm relatively new to hammock camping. I've never used an under/top quilt. I've always just used a sleeping bag/blankets to keep warm. Now, I have the misfortune of being stationed in Hawaii...I know you guys feel bad for me, thanks for the sympathy. My question is, are under/top quilts suited for warm environments? It usually only drops to the 60's on cool nights here, but up on the ridge lines, the wind can get pretty rough. Are there lighter options? Thanks for the info!

1 Season Quilts are an option. They can be very light weight, very packable and keep you just right for warmth at the temps you will see.

Using your tarp to block most of the wind, even if it's not all the way over the top of you, and you will stay comfortable.

+1 on 1-season quilts. Quilts can provide lots of warmth, but they're also more functional and suited to the task. UQs hug right up underneath you. TQs lay on top with no extra material, zippers or hoods to get in the way. The only downside is cost. If you can afford it, though, go with a 1-season set and enjoy the comfort and convenience.

I like and use HammockGear. They have some 50 degree models that would probably suit you well.

IX underquilts may be the ticket for you since they will also block the wind.

True. I've actually been thinking of ways to use a poncho and liner for a UQ!
