Thread: Wanted... Quilt

    Wanted... Quilt

I am looking for an inexpensive quilt to get my feet wet with quilts. I need something that will cover my 6' body w/ wide shoulders, and be warm to 40 degrees or below. It can be used/abused...down/synthetic. I can repair any flaws...I think

In short...I just need to start out with my first quilt and move on from there.

Please post or PM me with any offers. Thanks in advance!

If you have a sleeping bag... start with that. Or make your own.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Buy a kit at thru-hiker.com or a rayway quilt. The latter is synthetic and easy to make.

Just out of curiosity, are you interested in a top quilt or an underquilt? Sounds like a top quilt to me from your description.

Yes,I am looking for a top quilt.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I have thought about a kit. I just learned how to sew,not sure if I am good enough yet to tackle a kit.

I have a cat's meow sleeping bag I was thinking of using as a quilt to start out with.

The rayway kit is very easy to do. All straight stitches, nothing fancy. Makes a nice quilt though.

I'll second that. You don't need to be 'good' at sewing to make one of those, just patient. Go slow and shoot for 8" sections and you'll be fine.

I have a down mummy bag with full zip that I use as top quilt. Like it so much that I've never felt the need to replace it with a top quilt. Used $$ to buy No Sniv that I use as an underquilt and also have option to use as top quilt or wear as a down cape. I like options!

Definitely experiment with your Cat's Meow sleeping bag.

    Ray Way Quilt

My wife put a ray way together for me as a Christmas present. I really like it so far, just gotta find out what the low temp will be for it.
It took her about 22 hrs to put it all together.
