Thinking mid Feb. Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks for the info lazyboy
That is a good route. Goes through Brye Field which, if you had a large group, is a great place to "hang".They shut the road Jan. 1 but you can get there via Hickory creek trail from the fs 17, fs 630 trail head, to the Conasauga River Trail up river to the Panther Creek Trail, 1 river crossing, a few small creek crossing, about 5 miles
I've been trying to get up there ever since early fall to test out some gear. Feb sounds good. I did this same hike last Feb. and had some snow with temps in the teens during the day. Negotiating the bolder field at the base of the falls in the ice and snow was tough but do-able. The rock face at the top of the falls is another great place to hang with a great view.https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v...type=2&theater
Just another thought, if we could not do anything in Feb. They will open the roads on March 1st. Maybe a large group hang at the field at Little Bald Mountain. The field is big enough for a very large group with tent campers as well as hammock campers. There is a great trial off the field to a water fall about 4 miles down the mountain, with plenty of places to hang, as well as other hikes in the Wilderness area. Great mountain biking as well!
I would do it. I'm new to the forum and I've never been to a group hang- and this is in my neck of the woods. Would love to see some other folks' set-ups and techniques.
I'm down. I love the Cohutta.
Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest places if you look at it right.
