I'm taking mine camping the next 3 days. Gonna strap it over an ENO DN and leave my HH Safari at home! Its a great tarp to have. I'm kayaking though and don't care about the weight. If I was doing some serious backpacking though, I'd be worried about the size and weight......;-)

Are you primarily a car camper?... Glad you love your gear.. Something we all have in common..
Actually there is 12oz. difference in the tadpole.. I would rather have the 12oz. steak in my pack with the tadpole....... No salad..

ya, im not positive an weight difference, but I will check when I get back home. For me it was more about space than weight. Im not a gram counter by any means, just have old knees and a curious nature It just does not pack as small. are the sil nylon tarps as durable? I can not say, as these are all fairly new items for me But they do weigh less, pack smaller and cost a little more than the HH i have...

I am sure we have all thought about that way with a piece of gear. Though the evolution of our mind changes when we get various pieces of new information. Right now you are already changing, by your inquiry about other tarps. The best advice I can give to you, is find or start a hang in your area. You are bound to have many different pieces of gear come. This way you can see and touch them and really determine what is best for you. If your hex tarp is still the one for you. That is awesome. If not, welcome another piece of gear into your fold with open arms. Lol

Well, if you are able to maintain a monogamous relationship with your tarp, you are a better man than I. Best of luck to you Sir.

For winter it's nice to close off the tarp if it has doors. I'm not familiar with your tarp. Can you completely close the ends off?

Nope not at all. I actually do some pretty rough crown land hikes. 12 oz is a fair chunk but like I said for 70 bucks and being tough as nails is very important. Can anyone attest to the abrasion resistance to silnylon compared to the heavier hh hex? If I do ever move up to silnylon I would want to know it could handle any clawed woodland creatures falling on it. Long story...

For myself I find it hard to worry too much about pack weight. From start to finish including water my pack is at 27 lbs. that's quite a lot don't get me wrong. But I lost 15 lbs to get back into camping and I have another 75 to lose. Ha! When I get down there ill get that pack weight down! It'll be like floating on a cloud!

I really like the silnylon version of your tarp. Just a little bit lighter, is all, and rugged enough. My .02.
