Bill thank you. Yeah I am goin to have a great winter. I have been trying to get some merino wool just hasn't happened yet. It was funny I had all those clothes on because when I stepped out the door it was windy as all get out. Got into the woods not so much so I over heated a bit. You saw the rest. I can't wait to get out again and actually setup shop and have lunch and relax like I had hoped to.
    Thanks for watching.

Can't see the video at work, will check it out when I get home though. Jackie and I snowshoed Bromley Mountain in VT last Sunday on the Long Trail. It was a blast!

Just out of curiosity what type or brand of merino do you guys prefer. I have heard a lot of good things for smart wool but i figured I would ask.

I have a few Stoic shirts that I really like. I think it's the Backcountry.com house brand, but I'm not sure. I have synthetic shirts as well, but ever since using the Merino wool they have stayed in the drawer. Merino wool is really nice

Well i have a Patagonia #3 long sleeve half zip and an MEC long sleeve half zip. You can find sale stuff on Sierra Trading from time to time but merino is all over these days and as a light base layer probably any brand would work. If you can, get half zips. You'll want to unzip it from time to time to let the sweat out when really exerting yourself and i find half zips better than quarter zips. I also have a mid weight Woolpower which is fantastic. One thing i started doing this year is wearing one base layer till lunch and then stripping down , drying off with a small towel and putting the dry base layer on for lunch. Made a big difference in my comfort level and how long i can sit before getting cold. When your exerting yourself wear as little as possible on top. Let yourself be cool rather than warm. You'll reduce perspiration and as soon as you stop and put cloths back on you'll warm back up. It takes a while to find out how YOUR body works but by getting out regularly you'll figure stuff out.

When we go snowshoeing, the first thing I do after getting out of the car is to take off a layer. It's a little chilly at first, but doesn't take too long before you warm up. It's also important if you stop for a while to cover back up quickly. I am not a speedy hiker and snowshoeing slows things down quite a bit. Nice snow we had at NEHHA, I brought my shoes but the only thing I used them for was flattening the snow where my hammock was going.

Thanks Jpkeo. It was good to meet you at NEHHA. I did use my snowshoes on Thursday night because everything was untouched. So making paths they helped out a bit. The day I took that video it was very windy just stepping out the door. So that is why the extra layers.
    Thanks for watching.

Nice vid! Like the snowshoes, too. They make winter travel activities possible here. I had a new pair of SF Military Assault shoes at the NEHHA, and they were fantastic in the woods! Without a tail, and no tail drop, it was much easier to turn and navigate. Thanks for the video, and all of your hard work on our behalf at the NEHHA!
