I have the HG 4S CF tarp and the coverage is all I need. Adam from HG is great to do business with.

I don't think you can go wrong with investing in a CF tarp. It has excellent resale value.

    Good luck with your choices.

I've owned both the HG 4 Season and the Winter Palace, while the 4S is a great tarp and I have done some deep winter outings with it beautifully, the Winter Palace is a good margin better coverage. It compares well with the coverage of a Superfly.
The only short coming of the 4S is that it's not wide enought to get a tight pitch to the ground very easily, it can be done but you have to work at it.

The difference is between tarps made with a single seam at the ridgeline which max out at about 8.5' wide and tarps made with additional seams to add more width most generally another foot on each side. The additional material and time involve for the extra seams add substantially to the cost of the tarp.

So the question, is it worth the additional cost for the extra width. To me, yes very much so but I happen to really like winter camping. The beauty of a the wider tarp low pitched to the group really shines in high wind and blowing snow.

Not a problem at all. No stretch ... Hunker that bad boy down with ease!

I use Nite Ize figure 9's on my tie-out points. Makes staking out the tarp one of the easiest parts of my set-up. After my Mt. Rogers trip, I learned that in blustery conditions I need to anchor my stakes a little better; sometimes with rocks.
