Question: What the heck is a spindrift?
A Spindrift is a hammock sock for the Warbonnet ridgerunner hammock

After following several folks' reports, I'm of the opinion that the main purpose of a sock is a wind-breaker, at least above frigid temperatures. If there is no wind, then the appropriateness of the sock is questionable. As posted, it's advantages are out-weighed by the disadvantages. So, maybe it's a matter of us learning when and when not to use a sock. An extra couple of ounces of down may serve us better, then deploy the sock if it's windy.
For frigid conditions, maybe the same applies or more testing is in order.
My $0.02 (and that's about what it's worth)
