    What's up with Golite?

I have a Golite Quest backpack, that I have been extremely happy with. However, I've lightened my load to the point of needing a smaller pack. Their compactor system has made it possible for me to decrease the volume enough to fill the pack. I would like to replace it with a 50L Jam and that would drop my base weight another 1 1/2 lbs. Right now I'm at 16.3 lbs. base weight. Problem is they have no inventory and the colors are hideous! Does anyone know if they are coming out with new colors and packs soon?

I am right there with you on the colors. I would have purchased one a few months ago, but no matter how sothing lavender is I can't bring myself to purchasing one.

They tend to change colors and rotate some features every year. Seams like spring time they bring out the "new" models for the year. They run out of stuff online by fall every year. You might try calling around to some of their retail stores if there is one you like. The colors change but it I can't say they have been picking good ones for the last few years. At least in my opinion.

It seems like they do one production run and that is it for the year.

I bought a GoLite Jam 50L a couple of years ago - I think I paid $109.99. but at times you can get the same pack at $79.99. They definitely have a weird business model, but I like their gear.

They seem to be out of a lot of the more popular items. I've been waiting for a poncho tarp. They said they would be back in stock...at the end of last month. :/

I think they have been heading in the wrong direction for a few years. Heavier products, on top of the issues you point out.

Might be tough to turn around.

Seems like a market trend; look at the new packs from Gossamer Gear

I'm very disappointed in the color scheme and they changed the Murmur a great deal! I have the older Murumer and loved it! The new one is supposed to be used with a base weight of 5lbs or less. Perhaps they got complaines from folks who where overloading their Murmurs. They should have kept the Kumo and simply made the edge of the mesh panel on the front level instead of slanted and it would have become a top seller! Look at the bright blue strips on their new packs!

Then take a look at Six Moon designs. They had some great packs and this year they redesigned them all and they're all white and blue and other strange color patterns. They're also heavier! Perhaps something is going on in the market that we aren't seeing?

Honestly, "white" simply isn't a color that belongs in the woods, especially on a backpack! Things get dirty so earth tone, blacks, grays, etc are much better! If you want to brighten it up you can use hotter colors of green or red and still look reasonable.

I don't mind folks changing up colors but they should always offer them in some of the traditional, earthtone colors or straight black and grays.
